Chinese news agency Xinhua has reported just earlier today that Ai Weiwei has been released from prison. The Xinhua report claimed that Ai was released "because of his good attitude in confessing his crimes as well as a chronic disease he suffers from." Ai Weiwei and his company Beijing Fake Cultural Development Ltd. had been charged with tax evasion, although many believe that the arrest was a result of Ai's radical blogging and anti-government activities.
